THE EXHIBITION
“Sugar Façade" is an exhibition that explores the concept of re-taking the power that was taken away from you. It’s about reclaiming and rediscovering the inner strength that we all have within. The colorful images play in contrast with the subject, that is sexual in nature, but that goes deeper than the first impression might convey.
“Sugar Façade", as the name indicates, is a sugar-coated representation of a cruel reality but with an empowering twist that is up to the viewer to interpret.
THE ARTIST
The Unhappy Collection, aka Joel Hultqvist Krohn, is a creator born and raised in the outskirts of Linköping. His work is playful and gives a child-like and dream-like feeling but with darker undertones that put in sharp contrast the images and the theme.
The artist preferred medium is a digital collage with images that he takes himself, with both digital and instant cameras, of objects, people or patterns that he finds interesting.
The subject of his pieces are self-referencing alluding to past experiences but that are relevant and raise a red flag in today’s society.
